You know, I used to hope that the whole good-ol'-boy act was just that, an act. But, after a while even my wishing could not make it so.

Well, I had followed enough of his career to not have any hope at all, but, of course, the past career isn't always a good guide in politics. I have been terribly disappointed by President Obama. Nothing in his career made me think that he would "give away the store" to try to make the Republicans like him.

What an airhead Bush was. He was nothing more than Cheney's & Wolfowitz's puppet. I'm not thrilled by Obama either, George. He ran true to form yesterday when he proposed freezing federal worker's salaries for two years BEFORE he evan began negotiations with the GOP. There goes another bargaining chip.

I am slightly disappointed in Mr. Obama, but proud to take a position that he did, in fact, try to reach across the aisle. He, and the Democrats let the fear of total failure make them give up some very important positions. And because they expected Republicans to live up to their campaign rhetoric, or misread that rhetoric, actually expected the partisan warfare that always marks elections to evaporate when the dust settled. That they were wrong speaks volumes about the Rabid Partisanship of the Party of Big wallets, and bigger portfolios.

I am probably wrong about this, but I think Wikileaks batch of cables has some messages doing that as well, at the time he was making the war in Iraq a reality instead of Dick Cheney's fondest dream. There is also a batch of comments about his lack of curiosity, and what I thing is a polite term for stupidity, "intellectual reach." I could be mis-defining that, It might mean he suffered from the inevitable result of lack of curiosity. Plain simple minded complete ignorance. They say that too.

Karl. You are not only obtuse you are transparent. With the limited size of the post area it is easy to make typos and grammatical errors. When we post we can see if there are typos or grammatical errors. When I correct them I replace the flawed post with the corrected one. To try to call that anything except what it is makes you look more out of touch. Get a grip.

Dan, I know the problem, I have it myself, BUT as far as I can remember, this is the first time I've seen what you did has been the means of correcting an error. When I make an error on an originating comment, I copy the comment, start a new comment line, pasting the corrected comment as a NEW comment. Generally I just post a correction as a reply to the original. If I make an error in a reply I Copy, Paste, Edit, Delete the error, and Repost. It's pretty simple, for a typo, or even a badly constructed sentence.

What you did was copy, paste, edit, reply, and delete. When you do that on an originating comment. NO FURTHER DISCUSSION IS POSSIBLE UNDER THE PARAMETERS OF THE SYSTEM.

If you did it through ignorance I apologize for being blunt, and not diplomatic.

You and I both know that the correction has to be made in a new window. The original window is gone. The notice that it was removed says the author removed it. That author was YOU. If George Shaw had removed the comment, ALL replies would be removed with it. The ONLY way what happened above is, you posted the correction by replying to your own original comment, and then deleted the original comment. I did it TWICE to demonstrate the technique. I don't think I could have been LESS obtuse.

Being obtuse is not the fault here. YOU completely understood what I was saying, and it was clear that I understood what had been done. That is not obtuse in any sense of the word.

So did you mean I was annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand? I understood immediately what happened, and you may have been annoyed by my pointing it out. But that is just plain annoying. Not annoying by not understanding. I know exactly what happened.

Actually Karl I have tried that before. The problem is that about half the time I would copy, delete and copy to a new box, the copy wouldn't work and I lost the original. Now I copy, paste to a new box, edit it, submit it then delete the original.

And, what you did in this case was create a reply to comment that stayed in the thread, and, because you wiped out the "Join the Conversation" box it was orphaned. GO TO THE TROUBLE OF PASTING THE VERSION FOR EDITING IN THE "JOIN THE CONVERSATION" WINDOW. That way you start a new sub thread. When you are editing a "Reply to this comment" entry, You have to wait a few seconds to delete the "Reply" that has the error. Submit the correction, wait till it posts, and then delete the erroneous entry. Back up the corrected entry by copying it after you make the correction. If by chance both your correction and the error get deleted, you still have the corrected copy on your clipboard. And you can have a "do over."

Again, if the comment I objected to was an honest mistake, I am sorry I got so puffed up about it. You deserve my apology.

By the way, when the author calls former President George W. Bush "shrub" their credibility goes out the window. It is interesting that so many of them don't know they look so stupid regardless of their article.

Karl, I didn't misuse the word but I may have aimed it at the wrong person. We had our 2 1/2 year old grandson over and sometimes I mix up a post with the wrong person. I looked back and saw you were not obtuse, it was George. I will try to identify people more accurately in the future.
