John Travolta and Kelly Preston Welcome New Baby Boy Benjamin

John Travolta and Kelly Preston welcomed their new baby boy Benjamin Travolta, who was born Tuesday night at a hospital in Florida. Benjamin weighed in at a healthy 8 pounds and 3 ounces.

According to MSN, both baby and Mom Kelly Preston, who is 48, are doing just fine. The Travolta family issued a statement to the media regarding the blessed event.

"John, Kelly and their daughter Ella Bleu are ecstatic and very happy about the newest member of the family," the statement read.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston announced their pregnancy back in May, a little over a year after losing their oldest child, their son Jett, who was just 16 years old, to a seizure. The boy died while the family was vacationing at their home in the Bahamas.

After avoiding the limelight for a while in order to grieve their loss of Jett, the Travolta family emerged to announced the impending birth of a new member of their family. At 48, this did in fact prove risky to Kelly Preston, but she is said to have managed the entire pregnancy with no major issues.

This proved to be such a wonderful blessing to the entire Travolta family. While it certainly didn't make them forget the loss of their beloved Jett, it did fill them with a sense of renewal with the anticipation of a new member of the family. It was a great sacrifice on behalf of Kelly Preston, too, since many mothers of her age experience serious difficulties when going through a pregnancy at that age.

It is likely that fans everywhere are rejoicing with the Travolta family over the birth of Benjamin Travolta on Tuesday in Florida. May his presence in their family bring them a new sense of love and purpose.
