Okay, I'm a little excited. My literary geek is showing all over the place and I don't even care! The Great Gatsby is one of my all time favorite books. I allude to it twice in my own novel, No Sensible People.
Â
I picked up the news from the Yahoo Buzz article about Carey Mulligan being offered the role of Daisy, and crying. I saw her in Never Let Me Go and she was awesome! Apparently, she's also in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which I have very little interest in seeing personally. Leonardo DiCaprio is playing Jay Gatsby, and Toby Maguire is playing Nick.
Â
According to ShowBiz Spy, film maker Baz Luhrmann called Mulligan on her cell phone and said, “Hello Daisy Buchanan.†She cried. I would've cried too, although I'd make a terrible Daisy Buchanan. I think I'll stick to writing, but if Baz wants to call me about putting No Sensible People on the big screen, I wouldn't object. Carey could pull off Lucy Cartwright. No problem.
Â
At any rate, I remember walking out of Never Let Me Go and saying to my sister, “We are definitely going to be seeing more of Carey Mulligan.†Apparently she was up against Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Never Let Me Go Costar Keira Knightley for the part.
Â
Did I mention I was a little excited? Must re-read Gatsby.
