Singer and tabloid-friendly celebrity Jessica Simpson has a new fiancee, and it's a man with a significantly lower profile than her's. Former NFL tight end Eric Johnson and Jessica Simpson are now engaged, according to multiple reports Sunday.
The report was first confirmed exclusively Sunday morning to Us Magazine, who also obtained a picture of Jessica Simpson's engagement ring (left, photo courtesy of Jamie McCarthy/WireImage.com at Us Magazine). Johnson spent a seven-year NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.
Johnson, a native of Needham, Mass. and seventh-round draft choice of the San Francisco 49ers in 2001, missed two full seasons, in 2003 and 2005. His best statistical season came in 2004 with 82 receptions for 825 yards and two touchdowns. He is currently a free agent.
So the Eric Johnson NFL career isn't the most spectacular one, if it's over. But that certainly didn't matter to Simpson, who may have actually found true love here. It looks as though both Simpson and Lachey are happy after moving on from their marriage, which is of course the best case scenario.
Simpson's announcement of her engagement to former NFL tight end Eric Johnson comes not long after ex-husband Nick Lachey, 37, announced his own engagement to TV personality Vanessa Minnillo.
