The countdown is over, according to a timer on the DreamVillain website. That's right, J. Cole Friday Night Lights Download has been unveiled today and lucky fans just might be downloading it right now. Early checks on Friday morning showed no new mixtape yet, but more recent checks showed the website being flooded by traffic and timing out. The new mixtape comes from one of rap's promising newcomers, who has even said he's the closest to the next Jay-Z.
Cole has the rap hit song "Who Dat?" out already, and has boasted if he's not the next Jay-Z, then he's the "closest one." In fact, Cole is part of Jay-Z's Roc Nation label roster, and has appeared on a new Kanye West track which also includes Kanye, Pusha T and Drake. As for the J. Cole mixtape it features guest appearances from the likes of Wale and Drake. The fellow rap star has had praise for Cole too. Drake appears on "In the Morning" a slowed down all-night lover's anthem. Cole goes solo on "Before I'm Gone" with a chorus proclaiming "One time for the city, Two times for you" over an upbeat sing-songy choral group. If these few tracks are an indication of the heat level of the new mixtape, J. Cole is destined for superstar status, and he's yet to release a full studio LP.
As of last check, the J Cole Friday Nights Lights mixtape download may have been crashing the website server. It can supposedly be downloaded at http://dreamvillain.net/ but the connection has been timing out since at least 1 PM EST. That likely means many fans are trying to get their hands, or ears, wrapped around J. Cole's hot new mixtape. Mixtapes have proven a successful venture for many rappers, as they've released music prior to their actual debut to get fans buzzing. It looks like a smart move for J. Cole as he's got the net buzzing and downloading his "Friday Night Lights," en route to a successful debut LP.
