There was a painting on the wall
I admit I hoped that it would fall
I just don't get why it is "good"
As I presume an artist would.
I stared. I tried, I really tried
But my so-called open mind denied
That there was any value here
To these dark colors in a smear.
Laela, artist that she is,
Got up to answer this, my quiz:
Who was the artist of this wreck?
Had he signed this piece of dreck?
She took the painting down and said
No name was there which could be read.
Hang it upside down, I sighed;
Who would know? Yeah, I was snide.
We stared anew, and after time,
Began to see the sense and rhyme.
A shack, a shore, a scary sky:
My word! We just could not deny!
Don't get me wrong; still think it's crap.
But right-side-up it's more than scrap.
Just goes to show that what we see
Depends upon our VIEW. Truly.
This painting was hanging in the house my friend Laela Arcus and I rented on Mobile Bay at the end of October (see my Gorilla On The Gulf post). I'd stayed in the house two years earlier with my mother and honestly, I believe I may have been the one who hung it upside down to begin with back in 2008. I don't mean to risk the wrath of artists but do keep in mind that art is in the eye of the beholder, and my Eye happens not to like this. :-)
