“You know the rules.” The older man growled at the sullen younger man who stood before him; head down, but obviously smoldering with anger.
“Yes, sir.”
“No hunting near the home place.”
“Yes, sir.”
The humbleness and submissive attitude were clearly feigned – totally at odds with the burning glare the muscular young man turned on his elder.
“Dammit, you know the reasons why!” the patriarch exploded. “After all the work I’ve done with you, all the effort I’ve invested in you – “ he sputtered for a moment and added, “Some days I think we’re going to have to just write you off as just another ignorant, hot headed male with a tendency to violence and poor impulse control.” The father whirled with an athleticism that belied his years and stomped out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
The younger man stood glaring at the door with narrowed eyes. Thinking, not if you knew how many times I’ve quelled the impulse to kill you.
