Conclusion of the Baby Selling series
Stolen babies continued
There are several cases of women having their babies stolen right from the hospital by unknown individuals, the site www.amfor.net, ( Americans for Open Records) goes into detail of the various cases.
It was not uncommon in Quebec, (Montreal) for the hospitals to deny young single mothers their children. These facilities would tell the mothers that their babies died at birth.
The Journal de Quebec, on 10-20-90, quoted the following: "In response to the article regarding Mrs. Solange Gagnon....the provincial president of Mouvement Retrouvailles (Canada's equivalent to America's Open Record Movement) states "...from the 1940s to the 1960s, it is not only in Quebec that medical and religious authorities made single mothers believe their baby died in order that they may be adopted without the mother's knowledge or consent. Mme. Lise Berube asked that mothers who were advised of their baby's death in an orphanage contact Social Services or Mouvement Retrouvailles....She also requested an investigation by the Justice Department." If you are a person wanting to adopt a baby, make sure you do it legally. Bending the rules will not help you to have a baby faster because you may feel you do not qualify for adoption under the conventional channels. It would not be wise to negotiate with a stranger advertising in an underground newspaper or website. You do not know these people, there is no legal investigation done to see if the pregnancy is even legitimate or if these people are just trying to make money. With a real adoption agency you will know that that there is a pregnancy through a mandatory pregnancy test. Other DNA testing will be done to insure the baby is healthy, such as drug and alcohol DNA testing for indigent women, ultrasounds, even amniocentesis in case there are any serious illness in the family, back ground checks, health records and more. Play it safe, do it right and wait for your perfect baby!
