A couple of weeks ago at my favorite auction I happened to pick up a storage bin full of wrapping paper for $5. Actually it was only the storage bin I wanted but when I began to go through the contents I realized what a treasure it was. To me anyway. Junk to most people I suppose.
The paper inside was "vintage", to say the least, as were the rolls of ribbon. There was no discoloration at all. Each one a window into a simpler and happier past here in America. A time when manners were important and a woman wanted to be treated differently by a man. A time when kids imagined spaceships and read books about them. Television and video were not an option.
Just going through and looking at each and every one was soothing and made me smile. The best part was that anything with a tag on it said "MADE IN THE USA". Everything. It reminded me of our great resevoir of talents and uniqueness in a very cruel world. Both of which are all but lost to progress and now the 21st century.
I have posted some photos of these paper patterns to remind you when we took pride in the artistic and grew on our ingenuity. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
