Election of black conservatives signals 'awakening'
Â
Ron Miller, a conservative author, columnist, veteran and tea party member, says Tim Scott's election to Congress is "an impressive victory."
"I think it's a great testimony to Americans' ability to evaluate people by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin," he suggests.
In winning the election, Scott beat out two white candidates in the Republican primary, including the son of late Senator Strom Thurmond and the son of former South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell.
"You would think that if there was going to be any state where race would be an issue [it] would be South Carolina. But they've demonstrated their ability, not just with Tim Scott's election, but with Nikki Haley's election as the first female and Indian-American governor of that state, that they're perfectly capable of voting based on the issues," the conservative columnist notes.
He decides the endorsements Scott and Haley both received from the tea party should reject claims that the grassroots movement is racist. Miller also predicts more black conservatives will get involved in the political process in the future.
"We had the largest number of black conservatives run for Congress this year than in any other, and we're going to have two black conservatives in Congress for the first time since 1996," Miller points out. "So we have a beachhead -- to use a military term --Â and we want to start using that, not only to show everyone that the black community doesn't think or act alike, [but also] to give black conservatives the courage to speak out and let themselves be heard."
He concludes those are logical goals because no community thinks or acts alike.

Â
Most of the record number of black conservatives who ran for office were endorsed by the TEA party and other grassroots organizations. You know....the supposed racists.
Â
In the primary, Tim Scott won against two white candidates, in South Carolina, and against candidates that were quite well known. The TEA party helped get him elected. You know...the supposed racists.
Â
We'll now have two black conservatives in Congress - the first time since 1996.
Â
Alan West, another conservative black, won his race for the House to represent Florida's 22nd District.
Â
Bishop E.W. Jackson, Sr., president of Staying True to America's National Destiny (STAND) says that the election of Scott and West shows a shift away from government dependence. He also says, "I think that the black community is just tired of that [message] -- particularly younger black people realize that that's a message that simply does not ring true anymore." Jackson, by the way, is also a black conservative.
Â
Ron Miller, the author of the article linked above says, "So we have a beachhead -- to use a military term --Â and we want to start using that, not only to show everyone that the black community doesn't think or act alike, [but also] to give black conservatives the courage to speak out and let themselves be heard."
Â
Black conservatives shouldn't have to have courage to speak out. They shouldn't be subjected to the horrible things that liberal/progressive/Democrats say about them. But that's the way it is. Lib/progs really care about the color of a person's skin and make a really big deal about it.
Â
Conservatives care only about what a person believes, the person's character, that the person honest and has integrity and will do what he/she promises. Skin color matters not.
Â
We're not the racists. The ones who talk and talk and talk about race are the racists. The ones who think race matters in everything, who think all blacks have to be Democrats. Those are the racists.
Â
I'm glad I'm not one of them.
Â
And I'm thrilled that the TEA party was able to prove that there really are black conservatives.

Lloyd is a sweetheart! I told him about Linda A and so we did the pic for her. Told Darla how you follow ResistNet, so we did pics for you!
Just sent Darla the pics again this am. Now that she is home with her puppies (she has 3), she will have time to breath. Lloyd and Darla have been going 24/7. I admire that they put so much on the line to help get the message out and bring people together.
Darla and I had the best convo, wish you had been there...
Linda, it was my pleasure to tell them who taught me.
I just had my 40th class reunion. Our class president and class secretary were black, in a school with about 20% African-American.
I think people like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have not helped race relations at all. I often with that MLK hadn't been shot. I think that he would have done a much better job than any of these black leaders.
