Johnny Depp might have yet another project coming to the big screen - "Snow White and the Huntsman." It looks like the actor has been offered the lead in the film coming to theaters from Universal. Plans are in motion to start the production of the project in January with a release date set in December 2012.
This project can be added on top of the long list of projects Depp has rumored to sign on to do. He has been attached to everything from "Dark Shadows" to "Lone Ranger" in recent months. He was even rumored for "Batman 3" as The Riddler, but those rumors have been completely debunked. The Riddler isn't even the planned villain.
The Wrap reports that the plot for this one follows the story of the huntsman that lets Snow White go in the forest without killing her. He has a sad tale of his own to tell, and Universal is trying to bring in to life. In this film, the huntsman remains with Snow White and helps her flee from bounty hunters. He then teaches her how to fend off her evil stepmother. Yes, this is definitely a modern retelling of the story.
This is the second Snow White film announced to be in the works in recent months. Natalie Portman is a part of the cast for another film featuring the character. That film was announced over the summer, but it no longer appears on her IMDB page. Two Snow White films? Do we even need one? When will Hollywood realize that the movie going public doesn't need constant remakes? Hollywood needs more original material. This one sounds to be different than the classic story, but if it is so different, why call it another Snow White film?
Johnny Depp will be seen next on the big screen in "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie. That one will hit in December. Production on this one will start in January if plans move forward.
