I Saw A Comet Tonight!

I just saw a comet in the sky tonight as I was taking out the trash. I did some research and found out if was Comet 103P/Hartley 2. I'm really excited at what I saw since that was the third comet I've seen in my life. I've always dabbled in astronomy from the time I was a kid.

Good for you!!!!!!! I wish I had been able to see it. When I was a kid, we would lay out by the lilac bushes and watch the heavens. Back then, we lived in a place without all the light polution we have now and you could actually see the milky way and all manner of cool things.

The only comet I saw was the spectacular Hale Bopp. I wish there would be another one of those in my lifetime.

I've looked several times for Hartley 2 but have not found it. The only way I could see it now would be getting up at 3 am, which is not very appealing to my lazy brain...

Wonderful! I missed it ... :( But I did see a comet (maybe it was in 97) everyday driving my son home from school for about 2 weeks it hung in the sky right in front of us as we drove home (toward the west) each evening.

Yeah, that was the comet Hale-Bopp. It was so bright, the closest it got to us was like 125 million miles, if it got within 9 million miles like Hyakutake in 1996, it would have been visible in the daytime. Mom and I saw Hale-Bopp in the Western sky.
