In a sort of exercise in mining an "attitude corpus", the good folks at buzzfeed decided to ask Google "Why are ________ so..." (filling in the blank with a religious group). The new google autocomplete algorithm then fills in the most popular searches. Â Here are their results:
In case you have difficulty reading them, people have apparently searched for "Why are muslims so" (violent, stupid, angry, crazy, etc.). "Why are jews so" (cheap, successful, smart, rich, etc.) "Why are christians so" (stupid, judgmental, ignorant, hateful, etc.). "Why are buddhists so" (happy).
In all cases, the beginning is what was entered in the search box; the items in parentheses are some of google's suggestions, based on the most common previous searches.
OK, obviously this is about stereotypes rather than objective truth, but just for fun, I tried a few others.
Why are uus / unitarians (no suggestions)
Why are mormons (so weird, so nice)
Why are hindu (gods blue)
Why are hindus (vegetarian, upset with avatar, cremated)
Why are humans (so smart, so stupid, so weak)
Why are democrats (so stupid, donkeys, socialists)
Why are republicans (so stupid, so hateful, called right wingers)
Why are americans (so fat, so stupid, afraid of dragons)
..............afraid of dragons? Really? This must be an internet meme I missed, lol.
I predict I will be wasting more time than I should at this dumb game as new ideas occur to me.
