It will cost you a little bit more to eat at McDonald's starting in 2011. The burger chain has announced plans to raise the prices on its food starting just after the new year.
According to the National Ledger, McDonald's saw a 6% increase in sales shortly after the beginning of the economic downturn. This is partly attributed to the fact that people relied on McDonal
d's food as a staple in their diets, causing the fast food chain to thrive in this recession. The dollar menu is an extremely popular facet of economical eating at McDonald's, but will it even be a menu option come 2011? That remains to be seen, since exact details of the hike in costs hasn't been disclosed.
It's quite likely that McDonald's will continue to thrive, even with a rise in prices. Even the recent talk online and on TV about the Happy Meal experiment, where a burger and fries were left uncovered for 5 weeks, yet never grew any mold, couldn't squelch sales at McDonald's. People simply have developed a taste for the meals, and the convenience of fast food simply works well for some people. Never mind that fast food meals like McDonald's have probably contributed greatly to the epidemic of obesity in the United States....people will eat it anyway.
So start hoarding your extra change. Keep a stash in your car and a few extra coins in your pockets. After the holidays are over and the new year is off and running, you may just need that extra money if you indulge on occasion on McDonald's cuisine.
