Already facing unfamiliar adversity, Peyton Manning is going to have to go the rest of the year without his coveted security blanket.
Indianapolis Colts' tight end Dallas Clark is going to miss the remainder of the season after being placed on injured reserve by the team on Friday, according to ESPN. The All-Pro tight end injured his wrist in Sunday night's victory over the Washington Redskins. The report states that Dallas Clark met with three surgeons before deciding to have surgery.
Dallas Clark's injury is only one in a season filled with bumps and bruises for the Colts. Safety Bob Sanders has been out since Week 1 due to injuries. Running back Joseph Addai injured his shoulder in Sunday's game and the extent of the injury has not yet been determined.
But the major injury problem for the Indianapolis Colts is at the receiving corps now that Dallas Clark is gone. Pierre Garcon just returned after battling injuries, but receiver Austin Collie had thumb surgery this week and his return is unknown. Another receiver, Anthony Gonzalez, has been out because of a high ankle sprain.
So where do the Colts go from here? Luckily for them, Peyton Manning is still under center and he could probably make an offensive lineman look like a Pro Bowl wide receiver. His top target for years, Reggie Wayne, has been healthy and has seen a lot of balls come his way. Manning and the Colts need Wayne to stay off the injury list for the normally high-powered offense to stay that way.
Indy's defense will have to step it into gear with the loss of the offensive weapons. The defensive unit currently ranks 26th in the NFL in total yards given up and are tied for 17th in the league in points allowed per game.
Even with the injury problems, the Colts are 4-2 and are tied for first in the AFC South. However, if they want to stay there, Peyton Manning and the offense might need to find a little magic.
