Growing up our family had a dog named Sport. Sport was my sister's and I's constant companion. We really loved that dog. Sport fell victim to some bully's that lived down the road. He disappeared one day never to return.
Mom never really cared to have dogs or pets. It wasn't that she didn't like them but that she was afraid of them. I don't recall ever getting another animal to replace Sport. There were many reasons why but our hearts being broken was the man reason.
In my younger adult years, I was the type who didn't have time to have a pet. Didn't want to nurture, feed, water or care for a pet. I was always to busy for one. I would see others with a dog that they would take everywhere. My reaction was, "I bet their house is dirty. All that dog hair and stuff." All kinds of things would come out of my mouth. It wasn't that I thought having a pet was bad. I just didn't have time.
I met Tommy who is the love of my life in 2004. In 2005, he says,"I want you to have a dog. A golden retriever is the best kind." I told him, "NO WAY! I don't want something to have to feed or take care of." As it turns out, he secretly searched for one for me. In March 2005, we went to Lake Lanier to the breeders to pick him up. I still didn't really want a dog.
The breeder we bought him from always has a theme for the litters. Like a country theme, gambling theme, baseball theme, etc. They ask that you name your pet after that theme but it is not a requirement. The theme for this litter was a gambling theme. Tommy and I had made a list two weeks before and discussed what to name him. Of course, we couldn't decide. Once there though we knew what his name would be.
When we arrived, Tommy & I went in to met the newest memeber to our family. I instantly feel in love with our baby. We knew that his name would be "Master of the Game-The Boss". We call him Boss for short.
I held him in my lap all the way home. At 125 lbs, he still thinks he can set in my lap. This is a very funny site.
Boss is a wonderful dog. I don't know how I ever lived without him. Boss loves people and especially kids. He likes to swim, eat ice but most of all, he likes to be loved on.
I know Boss can't read this but I want him to know that I love him very much.
