News that an unidentified porn actor tested positive for HIV caused the voluntary shutdown of 2 of the industry's biggest studios as a precaution and to raise awareness of the issue.
According to the LA Times, Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment have said they closed their doors after the announcement on Tuesday that a male porno actor tested positive for the disease at an adult industry sponsored medical clinic. HIV tests are mandatory for porno actors within 30 days of an appearance in an adult movie.
All known sexual partners of the infected actor in the movie are being contacted and will also be tested, which is a requirement by the law governing the industry. The two studios have shut down voluntarily in order to ensure no further infection and to educate the public about the use of condoms which help to prevent the disease.
The porn business has had these scares before. In both 2004 and 2007 positive HIV tests sent shockwaves through the business that temporarily halted new movie production at the time.
