If Little Miss gets upset about something, I acknowledge why she's upset, then point out the good things that are going on around us.
We love Veggie Tales!
You do the best you can to talk to them and teach them that life is not always fair and you don't always get everything you want and to be happy with what you have!
"But Godliness with contentment is great gain!!"
Turn the T.V. on and spend sometime with them, let them know that your their for them.
We also spend lots of time together, and he knows that nothing is more important to me than he is.
She knows that she is loved and we are there for her no matter what.
Distractions! It is all about distractions! Getting their mind off what they are upset about.
It has changed through the years. We have always done long car rides (it makes vacations more affordable than flying) and when they were young we would play kid song CDs in the car and all sing along.
when we got tired of singing we would play the license plate game (trying to find all 50 states) of the alphabet game (starting with A find the letters of the alphabet in order on signs on the road) or "I spy"
as they got older they would read books...we eventually got a portable DVD player and they would watch DVDs, on Christmas they got GameBoys to take with on trips to keep them occupied...
they are now 12 and 14 and for the most part do well keeping themselves content but we still bring out the "oldies but goodies" from time to time on family trips just cause it still makes things easier and brings back wonderful memories :)
Busy children are happy children!
So when they are bored I might throw a blanket or sheet over the kitchen table and I have an instant clubhouse; adding a flashlight and some stuffed animals and we have ourself a party. Kids LOVE this!
When they are not playing with this creative toy, they are watching Mommy approved cartoons and videos. My twins love Veggie Tales. We have one about the Vikings..
I keep my kids content by giving them thier own space and belongings to play with. I find that my kids are content playing with thier own stuff in thier own rooms.
Depends a lot on where we are and what I am doing. If we are in the car I try to play a game like I see something...., I keep lots of books on hand for me to read and him look at, crayons and paper are always in my purse. At home we do a lot of family activities together he is usually a lot more content when its a together thing.
my girls are both very creative :)
(more so than their mother)
My 14 yr old is another story...to keep her content we have to keep foods in the house that she likes to eat LOL
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Rolade
