Rep. Candidate Paladino: Homosexuality Is 'Dysfunctional' & 'Nothing to Be Proud Of' (Video)

Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino fired hateful anti-gay remarks in two religious events in New York on Sunday. He arrived at two synagogues spreading his ideas on "religious values," making it clear that he would not endorse homosexual lifestyles by saying, "There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual. That is not the way God created us..."

New York Daily News reports that while Paladino spoke to a group of Orthodox Jewish leaders, he noted that he boycotted the Gay Parade, and plans to "veto any legislation that seeks to legalize gay marriage in New York." Paladino doesn't want homosexuality to be an apparent lifestyle that is taught by New York schools. Not surprisingly, Paladino also spoke about how he felt that people and children were much better off not being "brainwashed" by thinking that homosexuality was a "valid option," and that they should just be taught to grow up, get married, and raise families. Isn't this the kind of denial (usually stemming from religious "values") that harvests the root for hate crimes to occur?

However, when Paladino was confronted with the issues of recent hate crimes and gay bashing, he said he did not support or condone that type of action, saying that he "did not want to hurt homosexual people in any way" and that his approach is "live and let live." How exactly is vetoing any chance for homosexual people to receive equal opportunity through marriage, living and letting live?

It is apparent that Paladino is not ready to admit to his own biases, but instead relies on his "religious values" to validate his hateful ideologies. Cuomo spokesman Josh Vlasto responded to Paladino's statements by saying "Mr. Paladino's statement displays a stunning homophobia and a glaring disregard for basic equality." Given the cultural diversity of the state of New York, it seems antithetical to elect someone who is not cognizant of, and supportive of the lifestyles of a large population of citizens living in New York.
