Although Prince Charles and Camilla were in India today for the opening of the Commonwealth Games -- specifically to officiate the lavish event -- they were also there on an official visit ordained by The Queen herself.
That meant a mad dash itinerary for the Prince of Wales, although the Duchess of Cornwall arrived earlier than her husband. He arrived in Delhi on Saturday but she started the trip off earlier in the week.
She also started the trip right, according to the Times of India, who reports that Camilla signed up for a few days at an Indian healing spa where she languished with family and friends.
No doubt the calm was soon washed away as the couple took part in many activities before the actual Commonwealth Games event.
Yahoo News announced a formal greeting with Indian President Pratibha Patil and a reception at the British High Commission so Prince Charles could present the British High Commission award to a deserving student.
And that's just the half of it.
But finally it was time to open the games, which got off to a rough start due to corruption allegations, a footbridge that collapsed and a dengue fever outbreak with one of the patients reported to be among the athletic contingency, according to the Guardian.
Nevertheless, the two plus hour ceremony was enchanting, with pageantry befitting a prince and his bride.
Happily, the same were in attendance. In fact, Prince Charles and Camilla seemed to thoroughly enjoy the extravaganza befitting enough to launch the highly acclaimed Commonwealth Games.
Take a look at the photos of the main event here and weigh in about how you feel about this auspicious occasion? Did India do it up right? Do you think Prince Charles and Camilla really had a good time or was the couple there merely because, well, that's their job? Thoughts? Thanks.
