Did you know the articles you write on Gather...

OK so last weekend I wrote about steak and eggs. I'm lucky if I get 10 or 20 views on my articles and I was shocked to see that this particular article got 100 views (but mine you only about 10 comments at the time). Today I looked and noticed I now have 196 views and only 15 comments. It was driving me crazy (but a happy crazy) trying to figure out how it got so many views.

I decided to do a Google search with the title of the article. My article showed up at the top of the second page of the Google search results. I didn't know that the articles we write here might end up in Google searches. I guess it's a good thing because as the views continued to increase I noticed my points did too.

Most of my articles don't have "key words" in them, so I doubt they made it to Google.

Yeah I knew that. I was actually chatting about that with Ryan Reid last night. We both have a couple of articles with thousands of views. One of mine has 1,700 that's me asking how to make stuffing from 2008. I don't even tell you how! I was asking :) It must have come up in some kind of search to get those kind of views.

Wow, 1,700... that is a lot of views. It must have those special key words in the title or article. That's weird.

Yeah, that was back when I was typing in tons of keywords for all my articles because I thought I had to. :) Now, I'm lucky if I get 2-3 keywords.

That is pretty cool, but sometimes I write kinda personal stuff on here that I don't want to go on Google. I guess whatever you write here you have to assume that anyone and everyone will read.

That's true. I don't put anything out here that I don't care if anyone on the net reads as it's accessible by everyone. At least mine is I don't make anything private.

I've never heard of such a thing........not familiar with "key words," so I'm sure that my stuff doesn't appear anywhere else....that's interesting, though!

Certain key words put in titles or articles contribute to certain ads to appear on the page. Most websites make money by the ads generated on the site. If you have a popular title, higher paying ads will want to advertise to get more money. I don't quite get it, but I've done a little research about it.

I know, some people have hundreds of views. I think a lot of people cross reference on blogs and twitter. I don't do those though.

You're removing Google? I do searches from Swagbucks. The search results are almost the same as Google, and you get points!! Or I think Bing is a new search site.

I don't know about Bing, I've heard of it, but never used it. I use Google, but haven't had any trouble with them. Yahoo?
