Have we ever had a president before who disrespected people like this one does? I'm serious. Have we ever had a president who boldly and proudly says horrible things about one segment of the population, one part of the nation over which he is the president? I don't think we have. Oh, sure, we've had presidents who talk about the other political party, but they're usually talking about politicians within that party, not the general public who belong to the party being put down.
Â
But, Obama? It appears that he loves disrespecting a part of the community. If it were not so, he wouldn't do so.
Â
By the way, when Obama does put down the TEA party members, he's in the minority in his thinking once more. 42% of Americans see the TEA party as a good thing; only 18% see it as something bad. (Note to my conservative and TEA party friends on Gather, see those numbers? Just because there appear to be more loud lib/progs here at Gather who condemn TEA party members, does not mean that is true of the entire country.)
Â
Â
Anyway... Part of the interview is below. It begins with, "Look..." Don't you hate it when Obama starts answering a question with "Look"? I surely do. It makes him sound like the he believes himself to be better than the rest of us. Sure do miss the Bubba who was "misunderestimated." (No, that does not make me a racist. I don't like John Kerry for the same reason. I don't like people who walk around with their noses in the air.)
Â
Obama Continues Assault on Fox News, Tea Party
Â
Â
In the latest attack on Fox News from the Obama White House, the president himself hinted that the conservative network is actually hurting the United States.
Â
During an interview with Rolling Stone, titled “Obama Fights Back,†an interviewer asks President Obama whether he thinks Fox News is “a good institution for America.â€Â The president responds:
Â
Look, as president, I swore to uphold the Constitution, and part of that Constitution is a free press. We’ve got a tradition in this country of a press that oftentimes is opinionated. The golden age of an objective press was a pretty narrow span of time in our history. Before that, you had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view. It’s a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world. But as an economic enterprise, it’s been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number-one concern is, it’s that Fox is very successful.
Â
Fox wasn‘t the only target of the president’s remarks; he blamed the political divisions on Capitol Hill on the tea party movement:
Â
There’s no doubt that the infrastructure and the financing of the Tea Party come from some very traditional, very powerful, special-interest lobbies. I don’t think this is a secret. Dick Armey and FreedomWorks, which was one of the first organizational mechanisms to bring Tea Party folks together, are financed by very conservative industries and forces that are opposed to enforcement of environmental laws, that are opposed to an energy policy that would be different than the fossil-fuel-based approach we’ve been taking, that don’t believe in regulations that protect workers from safety violations in the workplace, that want to make sure that we are not regulating the financial industries in ways that we have.
Â
Â
********
Â
It's funny that Democrats all have different ideas about who is "in charge" of the TEA party movement. They don't understand how it could possibly be a grassroots movement.
Â
I used to find that a bit confusing. Then I realized that when liberals have protests and rallies, the "protesters" are people who have been paid and/or bused in by unions or professional organizers.
That's what happened here: Andrew Breitbart Confronts Hateful LEFTIST Protesters At Right Nation 2010
Â
And it's going to be happening again this coming weekend:Blame Big Labor, Not the TEA Party
Â
People on the left don't have grassroots movements, so they don't understand them. They rely on someone else pulling their strings - whether it's the government or unions.
Â
Oh, and....Rolling Stone? Well, Obama wasn't the first sitting president to be interviewed by them. That "honor" falls to Bill Clinton. Obama, though, boasts of being the first sitting president to be on morning talk shows.
Â
Obama's idea about what the TEA party is all about is bogus. I wonder why he refuses to listen or to understand. Doesn't he realize how many people embrace the same ideas - of limited government, lower taxes, fiscal responsibility, and free markets? Doesn't he care?

I didn't realize they were that high. You could never tell if planet Gather was the only place you had been...
OBAMA: "It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country "
LOL! When do politicians ever think of long term consequences? Not much, at least in regards to the economy.
I actually read that Rolling Stone interview a couple of days ago and it was as appalling as I expected.
It is good to know that there are so many more people who think the TEA party movement is a good thing than a bad one.
Linda, you're right. We need Obama to keep speaking between now and Nov. 2. Sure does help us.
Now, if Bush or any other president with conservative values started blasting a segment of the populace, he would stand to lose even many of his own constituency with the morals and ethics that would not allow them to condone or welcome that kind of rhetoric as being acceptable from any President.
I have friends who tell me they are very sorry they voted for him.
I've had a few even tell me that next time they are thinking that way I should knock them in the head before I let them vote for someone so full of hot air.
Let's see, in my lifetime we've had Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Dick Cheney teleoperating GW Bush. Those guys knew how to disrespect people. Obama isn't in their league, not even close.
Lyndon Johnson was famous for intimidation, blackmail, and putting people into potentially embarrassing situations. Robert Caro, author of the multi-volume definitive biography of Johnson characterizes him this way: "Johnson's ambition was uncommon—in the degree to which it was unencumbered by even the slightest excess weight of ideology, of philosophy, of principles, of beliefs." His entire approach to politics was based on disrespect and intimidation.
Not at all comparable. Did you not read what Marilyn said? "Oh, sure, we've had presidents who talk about the other political party, but they're usually talking about politicians within that party, not the general public who belong to the party being put down."
What you said about Johnson is merely more of same hearsay like you made in the first comment which is why I asked for a comparable example in the first place. It's certainly not even an example, much less a comparable one.
Hey, I won't be back until tomorrow. Take your time.
George W Bush, to Brazilian President Fernando Cardoso
This is still a dangerous world. It's a world of madmen and uncertainty and potential mential losses.
George W Bush
Want some more?
As I stated Obama has a long way to go to catch up to Bush.
I would say that that shows a contempt for the public.
Where do you come up with that? And if that were the case he wouldnt have gotten elected so while your scewed numbers and reasoning make sense to you they dont to the rest of the world.
Whereas, Obama had the authority to let Louisiana put out the barrier reef against the oil slick!
New Orleans was the fault of many in N.O. and the state. The president could not overstep their authority and could not go there until asked. The locals allowed school buses to be ruined that could have saved people.
And some of the fault lay in the people themselves. I watched as TV crews arrived and they interviewed people walking on the highways away from N.O. Most of them were foreigners....who had no expectations of the government going to "save" them. So they took off walking themselves. I never did understand why the able bodied people of N.O. didn't do the same thing. I think that's the result of expecting the government to fix everything for you.
1. Ignore it and hope people will get bored with it.
2. Fight back.
Since Fox is run by entertainment professionals, it's pretty good at keeping people from getting too bored. These folks know what sells air time. That makes choice two more practical.
I'll bet dollars to doughnuts even Gary Coleman's would shame you, JJ.
A racist comment from Shandi?
We are patriotic, Kenny. We believe in America, in Americans, and in the Constitution. Too bad this president doesn't.
But it is so transparent it doesn't work anymore.
Or this.
Or this.
We were talking about Fox News...try and keep up.
#1
You can go to jail if you don't have insurance and don't pay your fines. Remember? The IRS will be in charge of collecting those fines and people who don't pay their taxes (which is really what the fines will be since the IRS is collecting them) go to jail, don't they? Yep.
#2
Clips that don't show the entire message?
#3
They're right. That's not real coverage. One reporter was talking to people 2 hours before the event. Is that covering the event? Nope. One reporter covered 30 stops of TEA Party Express. Is that covering the Washington rally? No, not the same thing.
So, got any other supposed lies, Lori?
You may focus all day on color, but we do not. It matters not what color anyone is. We don't care.
Lori, the House version of the Helathcare Bill included a provision of jail in the penalties for non compliance. It was removed in the Senate version. Just curious about the air dates of those FoxNews broadcasts. Maybe before the Senate version?
Nonsense. Nice spin though Eamon.
Who's really creating the spin here. Sometimes you even make Breitbart proud.
I can't believe people actually believe anything they say. They have been caught lying so many times, and attributing pictures to events that were not taken there, that they are a joke to any endiucated person in this country.
Fox, thank goodness, covers things that the other shows ignore, things that are important to people who really care about what's happening in our country and around the world.
But, I suppose if you're one of the people who thinks that the screaming woman is doling out news or the tingle up the leg guy is a news guy, then you probably don't care about what matters to conservatives and TEA party folks - like less government, lower taxes, fiscal responsibility and free markets. Oh, and NOT rewriting history to leave out the importance of faith of our forefathers.
The joke is that in spite of the fact that 59% percent of people claim to get their news from MSM and despite the obvious play of MSM trying to sway public opinion, 54% of those polled say they want to see the Obama Healthcare Bill repealed, and 42% see the Tea Party as a good thing while only 18% see it as bad. This seems to prove that actual governmental actions speak louder than the biased coverage and spin of the MSM.
And, Kenny, again you're a riot. You have veered away from the original topic quite a bit.
During the last election cycle, people were convinced they were voting in a better administration. The "hope and change" was thought to be an easing of the housing crisis and banking problems which we thought to a very good reason for the amount of unimployed. It wasn't until after the election that maybe we sould have gotten a definition of "hope and change" before we voted. The "hope and change" we voted into office was not the "hope and change" we thought we were going to get. A few examples: a very large majority thought their health care was AOK, but right out of the box - a universal health care bill; we thought oil was our friend, we just didn't have enough of it - we get the gulf drilling being shut down and land based drilling curtailed and some wells shut down; we were ok with some stimulus injected into the economy - we get almost a trillion bucks that seemed to go to everywhere but where it might be most useful; the list goes on and on.
The main problem I have with progressives is they will not tell us what their end game is. Where do they want us to end up and with what type of government. I grow weary talking trivia. I want to talk about the basis or foundation of where a progressive is coming from. Do they want communism? If so, let us all discuss it. Let's quit nibbling around the edges. Same with socialism. dictatorship, parliment style, etc.
I am off the subject and I am sorry for that. I just get so tired to see a good subject denigrate to a "my quote is better that yours heehee" sling fest.
Limbaugh, Beck, O'rielly have all said some very direspectful thing about the President and his supporters. Fox is a mouth piece for the Republican party, not a news organization.
But, I doubt you'll leave the conversation here. You're having too much fun with photoshop and disrespecting conservatives like the disrespecter-in-chief.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4xY0G90rHc
Let's see....
On ABC's World News Tonight last Thursday a video created by the White House of President Obama on a call with a cancer patient who was thanking him for the Healthcare Bill was presented as news. Not news, propaganda.
Matt Lauer of NBC was seen urging the President to push back harder against Republican attacks. Not news.
Same thing with ABC's This Week with Christiane Amanpour and on CNN in an interview with Lisa Miller of Newsweek. Not news, propaganda.
And you wonder why we can lump them all together? Are you really that blind?
You are so blind. You're right. What Obama has done will be seen for years and when you finally wake up one day, you'll realize what horrible damage he has done to our country and to us.
I don't want him to fix anything. Economies have ups and downs. If he had let everything alone we would have been better off than we are now.
I don't want him or any government in my health care decisions.
Thank goodness we're going to take back the House and Senate and will defund some of this foolishness and then have it repealed.
Now here is the link to debunk the lies that Marilyn refuses to look at.
The reason Marilyn wont give them anymore IMHO is that she realizes how silly she looks by touting the same nonsense over and over but this president is just too "scary". If you get my meaning.
Let's see...he swore up and down - as did most Democrats, even those here on Gather - that the Bush tax breaks were only for the rich. He said he would stop all Bush tax breaks as soon as he was elected. Then he said he would let them expire, since, of course, they were only for the rich. No amount of explaining to lib/progs would convince them that EVERYONE got tax breaks under Bush. Now that lib/progs/Dems have finally admitted that, yes, the poor and middle class did get tax breaks under Bush, they're all trying to keep them.
There is so much about which Obama has lied that it's more newsworthy when he tells the truth. I posted about one time when he did. :-)
It's in the Dems playbook, smear, malign, repeat.
"You might want to pull that plank out of your own eye rather than complaining about the splinter in Obama's."
It is the duty of we citizens to be critical of our public servants, period. We are the bosses, and we are negligent if we don't speak up when we believe a public servant is out of line. I say.
And, you seemed well aware of that duty during the last Administration, and went so far as to advocate impeachment, and spoke things like this of him; (As did I ; )
"And I think that Bush will go down in history as one of the worst, if not the worst, presidents that this country has had."
"It is Bush who would have people arrested if they disagree with the government. We are moving to fascism very quickly in this country. Read political history. Read about what happened in Germany when Hitler took over."
So, what's changed? Why are the rules different now?
Lera what are you talking about? The reference to "scary" was there because before Obama even took office Marilyn was calling him scary.
Sorry sweatie.
Stimulus money that did nothing to stimulate the economy. More and more government jobs that cost us more and more money that we don't have.
Obama's is undoubtedly the most arrogant president. But he's a failure so far.

You can pretend that Fox isn't getting viewers, but the number show otherwise.
And, Kenny, your comment is exactly why we continue. We want people to learn the FACTS not what liberal media pretends are facts. And so we will continue to show them time after time after time.
His statement that we have had an objective press for only a short period of time is correct, but I think his definition of "objective" would be very different from mine. I certainly don't consider The Rolling Stone to be objective.
If he really believes that Fox hurts America, he should go on Hannity or O'Reilly and make his case for his programs and appointments. They have invited him to appear on their shows many times. What does he have to lose? It seems to me that he is very unwilling to debate anybody in the news media who differs with him and is an intelligent, skillful debater.
As far as Obama's personality is concerned, I would say that he appears very narcissistic. Also, I suspect that the abandonment of him by his biological father may have made him feel like he must be the father who he never really had. Unfortunately, he thinks he must govern the whole country like a father. Hence, the paternalistic attitude towards those Americans who disagree with him; they are, in his view, unwise and immature children. Furthermore, if he holds that view about most or even a significant percent of the population, he will transform the government into a giant nanny capable of tending to all groups' needs. That is an incredibly stupid way to govern because as more people become dependant on the nanny (the government), fewer and fewer will see a need to work hard, to take the initiative, to start their own businesses, to become inventers ...
I see cotton reaping
in fair or foul weather
see sugar cane reaping;
angry bulls in a bull ring
racers on a grass track
armstrong in a song-sing
old man's river, no turning back
no melanin in ivory tower
no country lost to crow ;
no 'uncle tom' in sacred bower
no unsettling overthrow !
Where are the oppositions examples of "reaching across the aisle" and "transparency", some of the lies he told during his campaign? He has rapidly tripled this nation's debt and his plans are to keep spending spending spending. He even lied to the far left about the wars.
Marilyn, your premise is 100% accurate, that he disrespects the majority of the American Citizens and wants to have billions and billions of 3rd world poor flooding our borders. And yet, accoring to him, we are bad for strongly voicing our objections and Fox News is bad for sharing the truth over his lies!
Have you seen the signs the people at these tea party rallys wave? Calling the President all kind of things, waving photos of him looking like the joker, some even threatening. Talk about disrespect. If people want him to respect them, then they should respect him.
For him to be attacking opposition and decent like this, on our dime, is disgusting to me. No class . .
No, it's just me not taking your every reactive burp seriously.
"Making generalizations towards politicians like "crook" and "con man" further shows your inability to focus on the subject."
No, the subject was whether politicians are somehow automatically deserving of respect. I focused my thoughts on that proposition, and found it laughable ; )
Well what do you expect? When you're on the ropes you gotta come out swinging.
With the abysmal numbers that the President and the Dems have, they need an enemy to focus on to motivate their base....and we are it!
Not knowing what you said, you said it. News flash. We are not the enemy. This penchant of the tea baggers - thinking this country belongs solely to them - screeching about "taking back OUR country", and doing their utmost to divide us, shows the limited thought pattern that is a prerequisite for joining their little group.
This country belongs to all of us. All races, religions, and political parties. The tea party, by their actions, are doing exactly what terrorists had hoped for - turned us against each other. Congratulations, baggers. Thanks to you, the terrorists won. Way to go.
The up side ( and downside, for you) is that you have managed to divide The GOP to the point you have weakened your voting base. You seem to be assuming you have November locked up. Don't count on it. Just because Fox tells you that you are powerful doesn't make it so.
Except Barb there is no inclination that what you suggest is happening. On the other hand how many Dems are campaigning on supporting Obama's agenda?
Overall there isn't anything that the Dems have done that a majority of the citizens support.
57% want Obamacare repealed, most Americans did NOT support Obama's porkulus bill or the auto industry bailout, and cap & trade.
Right now according to Rasmussen there are ten Senate seats currently being held by Dems that are "toss ups" or leaning/solid towards the Republican candidate.
Sorry to have to be the one to tell you...But it's likely that your dream about November will become your nightmare.
You're right, Dan. The majority of the people in the US do not want what team Obama is pushing. Some didn't realize it until they voted for him, but that's okay. They wised up. And come November, unless the Dems find a way to legalize fraud, or unless they rush through some kind of amnesty that gives millions of illegals instant voting power, I think the Dems are going to lose power. And thank goodness. We'll be able to defund and repeal the foolishness and get back to actually fixing what's broken and keeping what is not.
