Things are just getting interesting on "The Vampire Diaries" as another all-new episode airs tonight on CW. Episode 2.04 is titled "Memory Lane," and it marks the return of Katherine. You didn't think she would disappear that easily now, did you? Let's talk about tonight's episode!
The Return Of Katherine
She immediately goes to Stefan and tries to prove that she is there for him to win him back. He looks convinced at first, but then he turns the tables on her. He stabs her, and then ties her in the cell he was once kept in. He wants to know the truth. This is when she takes him back into the past. She knew all along the Lockwood family were werewolves. In her day, she struck a deal with George Lockwood, the man responsible for wiping out the vampires of Mystic Falls. He let everyone think she died in the fire with everyone else, but he set her free. She helped kill the vampires of Mystic Falls. This is one shocking revelation. She didn't even want the two brothers to save her that night. Her plan was nearly ruined by them doing that. They both died for nothing, but she says Stefan died for love.
A Barbecue Among Friends?
Elena and her sister decide to have a barbecue for Alaric. Damon is somehow invited, and Caroline joins in. Stefan is supposed to be there as well, but he is otherwise occupied. Mason Lockwood is also in attendance, and Damon wants to use this as his opportunity to prove Mason is a wolf. He steals a knife from Elena's mother's silver knife set, but his first attempt to out the man fails. When Elena doesn't hear from Stefan, she tries to go to his house. Caroline offers to drive her, but she wants to keep Elena away from Stefan's. She knows Katherine is there.
Back at the house, Mason and Damon have a little chat where Mason confirms he is a wolf, but he is not looking to kill any vampires. He wants no part of the ages old feud. Damon doesn't seem to believe him though. He once again goes for the knife. Both Damon and Mason leave the party, and he stabs Mason with the silver knife. It does nothing but anger Mason. It is just a myth. Now Damon lost his new friend. As for Elena, she wants to walk to Stefan's when Caroline's car has a flat tire. A tire issue created by Caroline. She finally gets away and heads to Stefan's.
Katherine vs Elena
Katherine threatens Stefan. She wants him to stay away from Elena, and if he doesn't she will kill everyone Elena loves and then kill her in front of Stefan. This strikes a nerve, and Katherine is able to break free. She is immune to verbane. Elena arrives, and this is when the two loves of Stefan's life meet face to face. The meeting is brief, but it obviously leaves Elena shaken. Katherine disappears when Stefan arrives. Katherine goes to Caroline, and she isn't happy that Caroline couldn't keep Elena away. She threatens to kill her again.
Mason & Tyler Fight
Mason returns home to find his nephew waiting for him. The two fight over the Lockwood family curse and the mood stone. Elena and Stefan arrive at the bar, and Caroline is there. She tries to apologize for the things she said to Elena about being with Stefan. Elena knows she was right though, but it isn't easy to hear. Stefan and Elena talk. Elena isn't afraid of her look alike though. The two end up fighting. Is Katherine working her magic? Are these two on the way to their end? Elena ends up walking away with Caroline and Damon both listening in. Stefan thinks they need to stay away from each other like Katherine asked. She is working her way back into Stefan's life, and she is succeeding. She next sees Damon, and she seems to have lost the ability to charm him.
As it turns out, Elena and Stefan were playing at the bar. They are onto Caroline and Katherine. They know Caroline will tell Katherine everything. The fight was just an act. In the final moments, the past returns, and it is shown that Katherine truly did and does love Stefan. She is also responsible for giving the moon stone to the Lockwood family.
