Fans are saying goodbye to a favorite character tonight when AJ Cook's Jennifer "JJ" Jareau leaves the BAU in the second episode of the sixth season. Â This news was released over the summer and immediately viewers protested. Â And when it was then announced that they would be replacing her character later this season, fans got angry. Â But lucky for Rachel Nichols, who will be guest starring this season on the show, she will not be playing that replacement.
Who Is Rachel Nichols' Character?
TVGuide is reporting that Nichols, who used to be on Alias, will be guest starring on CBS' Criminal Minds later this year for three episodes.  She was going to play the character "originally conceived as a replacement for...JJ."  But the writers have changed that, and now she will be "FBI cadet Ashley Seager, who's invited by Hotch to consult on a case after learning her family history will bring a unique insight into a serial killer's mind."  Now fans have to wonder if the case will stretch out over those three episodes or if she'll be sticking around and helping on other cases after the first one is solved.  The show is still a procedural drama, meaning each episode can stand alone, though occasionally the team does chase a serial killer over multiple episodes.  Viewers will have to tune in to see which is the case for Nichols' arc.
What do you think of this casting news? Â Are you glad Rachel Nichols is not playing JJ's replacement?
