Every sport has its ups and its downs meaning that it has its share of accidents. Perhaps the most dangerous of all sports is climbing and as such it is inevitable that an accident or a fatality will happen. However, how and why do they happen? Let us look at some of the possibilities:
You are an experienced climber and feel that you know all there is to know about climbing. You have all of the gear in place and you are ready but with all of your skill as a climber you become overconfident and do not use that skill as it should be used and an climbing accident happens.
Often an accident will happen because that experienced climber becomes careless. There are times when Lady Luck is not with you and you become injured when you are hit with a fallen rock, a storm or your hold breaks.
Do your best to avoid injury through an accident while rock climbing, because accidents are not fun. There are many people that are either injured or killed while climbing and you do not want to become one of them an end up being a tock climbing statistic. To avoid being injured as best as possible, plan ahead; get weather reports to avoid climbing in storms, wear protective gear and try not to climb to near below another party.
The idea of climbing is to have fun doing it. Whether you are an experienced climber or a newbie do not become too overconfident about your abilities and don't become careless in order to show what you can do. You cannot usually avoid what Mother Nature has in store for you but you can be prepared by wearing the proper gear and not rock climbing alone.
