Is Senator Mary Ladrieu treading on thin ice here?
I came across an article on AOL that she intends to block Obama's nominee for budget director.
What does she want?
The moratorium on offshore drilling in the Gulf.
So has politics stooped to a new level of extortion to try to get what they want? I'm sorry but yes we know that the gulf has been crippled by the moratorium of off shore drilling, And I have to wonder does she even remember the gulf explosion? The environmental mess in the gulf?
Under congressional rules, a lone senator can block a nominee from advancing to the Senate floor
That person would Sen. Mary Landrieu. In a very uncharacteristic move of bipartisanship there has been support for the nominee of Jack Lew. I understand why she is doing it, but I have to question is her reasoning going to put at risk this country moving forward?
Could she not get her point across another way instead of blocking a nomination for a position that has been vacant, from my understanding since July?
Is this not going to cause some dissent among the ranks of the democrats, let alone rankle the president? I'm all for blocking someone for a reason, but while this senator sees this as a reason, and I understand that the reasoning is that the moratorium is crippling the recovery of the United States and in the gulf, but.....with that being said.....an empty position that needs to be filled should not stoop to I'm not going to do this unless you do this......the you scratch my back I'll scratch yours.
I realize that her words are saying she is for the people of her state, however, there is a part of me
I have been researching this and can at this point in time find no ties between oil and profits to Mary Landrieu. That doesn't mean they don't exist, it means I can't find them. But more importantly than that before we even consider drilling again, we need to be sure that the equipment that is being used is safe to avoid disasters like this again, and we need to make sure this oil spill is cleaned up. Simple as that.
Until then, I know the gulf states are hurting because of the moratorium, but the safety of every person on rigs needs to be ensured, as well as protecting the extremely fragile coastal environment.
To me, the moratorium makes sense, for now, I'm not saying it can't be lifted, but there are some very very large concerns with the BP oil spill, Safety, etc. This oil spill has effected thousands of lives from many aspects of life, and not just oil, but also tourism, ecological, fishing, etc.......so I would think that Sen. Mary Landrie, more correctly I would hope that Mary Landrieu would be thinking more than just drilling before she says she will block a nominee to get what she wants.
I really disagree with her motives in blocking this nominee.
Its not about my being a republican, its not about my being a democrat. Its about overall what's right for this country, as a whole.

But I don't see why she's doing this.......I have some very big concerns about resuming offshore drilling in the gulf. And I don't think that should be used as a 'bargaining chip'.
I understand that its not helping louisiana or other Gulf states, but when you look at hte whole picture, outside of jobs, but the dangers to the fish etc in the gulf, before you start drilling again, you need to make sure that
not only is it safe.
I understand 'why' she's doing it. (I don't agree with her, but I 'understand it)
I disagree with her tactics, plain and simple.
