Everyone deals with tragedy and trauma in their own way. Â And after the events of last season's finale, it's no surprise that Derek Sheppard (Patrick Dempsey) is having trouble dealing with the aftermath of being shot, and he turns to another character for help--and it's not his wife, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo).
New Bromance in Seattle Grace
According to TVGuide, Derek (and other doctors) turn to Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) for help "living with PTSD." Â Owen has experience with PTSD and is the perfect "soundboard" at Seattle Grace at the moment. Â McKidd said that "everybody deals with [the shooting] in a different way. Â Some people go into a shell, some people become very extroverted." Â If you were going to put Derek into one of those categories, it would have to be the latter: "he becomes a speed-demon on the road" because, as Dempsey puts it, "he's much more into enjoying his life now and not compromising that." Â This is where that sneak peek comes in, where Derek is arrested but Meredith refuses to bail him out. Â But McKidd said that's understandable for Dempsey's character: "Derek was the closest to death, so he has more wounds than anyone to get through." Â Their friendship isn't a one-way street though. Â Derek helps Owen with his marriage. Â It seems that even though Owen and Cristina (Sandra Oh) are going to be married, that doesn't mean he's not lost when it comes to her sometimes and he asks Derek for help on that matter. Â There's also another silver lining to this. Â McKidd says that now Meredith is behind the couple: "She basically questioned Owen's intentions in Season 6, and in that moment in the O.R. [in the finale], it suddenly made her realize the situation and how Owen really feels." Â It'll be interesting to see how this season plays out in terms of the two couples: Meredith and Derek, and Cristina and Owen.
What do you think? Â Are you looking forward to seeing how everyone is coping on Grey's Anatomy?
