Elisabeth Moss, one of the stars of AMC's hit drama 'Mad Men', and her husband of eight months, Saturday Night Live's Frank Armisen, are calling it quits. Â The pair, who were married in October of 2009 in her native Long Island City, separated on June 26th, but just today did Moss file for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the split.
So what, exactly, was so irreconcilable that the two couldn't make more than an eight month effort to fix it? Â According to a source close to Moss, one of their main sources of conflict was religious, with Moss being a Scientologist, and Armisen, well, not.
"Her religion was as important to her as their marriage, if not more," the source said. "He could not get with it."
Couldn't, or wouldn't? Â After all, converting to Scientology isn't exactly the same as converting from Methodist to Lutheran. Â Scientologists subscribe to a vastly different set of beliefs and behavioral and ideological constraints, many of which are considered odd or, at the very least, extreme to those who are non-believers.
Don't worry about Armisen, however. Â He seems to be taking the split in stride, having been rumored to be dating his SNL co-star, Abby Elliott, shortly after their split was announced.
