If you want fast internet, go to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Chattanooga, which is the fourth largest city in Tennessee, with just 170,000 people, plans to become the heavy weight of American cities when it comes to broadband internet. Chattanooga has plans to give its citizens internet speeds of up to 1 gb per second.
According to the Huffington Post, there are only a few cities around the world that offer speeds that fast, none of which are in The United States. 1 gb per second is about 200 times faster than the average internet connection in The United States.
EPB, a Chattanooga owned utility company, will deliver the fastest internet speeds in the US by the end of the year. The company plans to charge $350 a month for the blistering fast internet speeds, which may be a little too rich for most people in Chattanooga. But according to EPB's chief executive Harold DePriest, the price is an issue that is still being worked on.
"We don't know how to price a gig [...] We're experimenting" DePriest said. "We'll learn."
