A Mexican mayor was gunned down in his office in El Naranjo, San Luis Potosi on Wednesday. The killing marks the third Mexican mayor to be killed in a month.
More than 28,000 have been killed in Mexico during the crackdown on drugs, and the violence is not slowing down. In better news today, prosecutors announced that they arrested 7 suspects in the massacre of 72 migrant workers last month.
Alexander Lopez Garcia was killed in his office in El Naranjo according to the AP. He was killed by four hitmen who just pulled up to the mayor’s office in a vehicle, and two of them burst into the office and killed the mayor. They fled the scene. Right now officials do not have a motive or much information about the attack. The suspect that a Mexican drug cartel is to blame.
This rash of mayor murders points to a possible targeting of civilian government by the Mexican drug cartels. The drug cartel violence in Mexico is scary. So many innocent people have been killed, and it is terrorizing. Hopefully Mexico will be able to get the situation under control.
