Building a deck part one - digging! AHH!

We are building an addition to my deck, we suspect the project to take two days.  This is day one, digging!  You would not believe how much dirt we took out, in the final article I'll show the piles.  It's almost insane!  As you can see this job wouldn't have got done without Patrick and his hammer....

Of course none of me working, I was taking the pictures.  However I was womaning the hoe.  Lotta dirt!

Also as of when does Gather make you select each picture one by one.  GRR

Great photos! I am sooooo wanting to have a deck built in the back of our house........we just got a new roof put on and have to get the back of the house resided first......then, possibly we might get the deck but will have the guys who did our roof build the deck, as well....they are so good and will get stuff done....not like hubby, who starts something and then quits halfway through.....LOL!!!!!

Digging and leveling is essential...but also not the most fun part of building a deck. It looks great though, and I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done!

This is alot of work, but I know your thinking, after its done, You and the Family will be Happy you did it, and before Winter sets in.

"However I was womaning the hoe." There has GOT to be a joke in that somewhere, but I' so tired I can't think of a single funny.

I hope the addition to your deck turns out nice! I have a flat cemet patio, I'd LOVE a raised deck/porch with a swing and a cover and....ahhhh...now I'm daydreaming in your comments section.
