UPDATE: Stephen Hawking meets on Larry King to debate with critically acclaimed metaphysical expert Robert Spitzer. Both are pitted against each other on the existence of the universe; theistic versus atheistic creation. The interview was a lively discussion covering topics like possible time travel. Hawking mentioned that according to Einstein's special theory of relativity there leaves a possibility for time travel! All in all, it was a very eye opening discussion based on his new book.
Stephen Hawking, one of the most popular physicists has co-authored a new book "The Grand Design" which is making very strong statements about the universe, existence, and creation. The book delves into the essential questions of science, life, it's meaning and many paradoxes.
One of the culminating ideas in the book, is the all-inclusive theory of the universe which is referred to as the M-theory. The book uses an analogy to this M-theory comparing it to a world map which in itself is insufficient of covering the entire world with its limitations. That's why many theories are stringed into the M-theory, where there are situations of overlap in explaining the universe's essence.
Generally, the viewpoint from the famed physicist is that the world is simply not understood by direct observation, yet is calculated and internally modeled by our minds, which gives credit to all the theories that have risen before us. In this way, the sciences can explain the same things in a calculated way that would be valid to many different viewpoints.
All of the paradoxes and life's mysteries are addressed in "The Grand Design" in a very bold manner, making it something of a metaphysical politicking given the level of understanding that these very complicated matters require. For physicists and fawning scientists it is a must read. Surely, it will be fodder for debate among those who enjoy concrete and bold writing on subjects that are essential yet so out of reach to common understanding.

We cannot possibly know all that is God in this life, because if we did the world of man would not be so full of himself.
Science unproven in theory is based at best on limited or incomplete information. The imagination can be a very fertile place, that’s why God gave us the Holy Bible to ground an otherwise misguided people.
One day, the "God of the Bible" (or the Koran) will be on the same scrap heap that Thor and Zeus are on today --- no doubt replaced by some other "created from nothing" new deity-o-the-day.
I took time out of my very busy schedule to respond to your post and all you can offer is an uneducated comment with disrespect from all your inglorious ignorance. It’s people like you who remain wallowing in the primordial soup of inequity with only limitations as your constant companion.
On the bright side, at least I now know to ignore any of your posts in the future.
John: how could you say that ? Greek mythology is just that, mythology or perhaps a keen understanding of astrology and the celestial world. The accounts of the Bible are factual.
I've recently understood that before Christ, people came to understand "God" inductively; whereas, after Christ we may understand "God" through deductive reasoning.
Good thoughtful comments and questions Philip. Yes, enormous counter polarity with one magically somehow reversing its polarity and attracted to the other in a violent reaction, or instead perhaps matter and antimatter being introduced into a void canceling each other out with catastrophic consequences, or "Brains" from some other reality somehow finding a void to inhabit, perhaps from some paralleling universe, or something else we have yet to imagine or theorize about, or maybe eventually discover as fact. But even with all the theories the world of man can conjure up, something had to be introduced somehow, and from somewhere into a nothingness to result into a so called Big Bang to become the catalyst that theoretically formed our tangible universe.
Let’s instead ask why a catalyst or explosion on the magnitude of a Big Bang, and not just a harmless introduction of particles or some inert alien matter seeping into a void from elsewhere, but with no significant or noticeable consequences? Since nothing can come from nothing, something had to come from somewhere (somehow) with an action and reaction, even if the reaction holds no visible purpose; like inertia: The tendency of an object at rest to remain at rest, or of an object in motion to remain in motion, in a straight line, unless acted upon by some other force. The laws of physics exist based on what we think we understand from our intellectual observations and conclusions of the facts as we can understand them. The world was once known to be flat and now we know beyond a doubt that it’s round; and instead of the sun revolving around the earth we now know conclusively that the earth and all the planets in our solar system revolve around our sun. Even in modern times there are many examples of scientists’ having to recant on what they thought to be fact, but most are usually buried in scientific journals as an ongoing process to understand it all and hopefully eventually discover truth. Any opinion, especially from a respected and established authority, should be more carefully and responsibly presented to generate genuine discussion and not inferred expert conclusions, and especially when assumptions cannot be proved beyond a shadow of many doubts.
As our knowledge increases so will our understanding and acceptance of God be. In this finite life we will never be able to fully understand all that is God, and that’s the way it must be for us to earn our way to Him, or return into the nothingness of our own negative perceptions. Einstein believed in God as many other scientists do because there are just too many variables that cannot ever be simply explained away as fact. The awesome power of God transcends any theories or suppositions the faithless world of man could even contemplate as is so often demonstrated by an ignorant, arrogant, and sophomoric mindset out there in all its unevenness. Those who are cognizant see beyond our inherent limitations to a Higher Authority as found in The Bible which holds the answers we need as a foundation to live the best life we can under God. And by God’s grace, from that foundation we will better reach for the stars and the infinite possibilities beyond.
