When True Blood's Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer walked down the aisle last month, with a beautiful Malibu sunset as a backdrop, few of the guests could imagine that Paquin is also enmeshed in the planning of another, double wedding of sorts - her upcoming nuptials in the soon to be released indie film, The Romantics.
The Romantics is produced, directed and written by Galt Niederhoffer, based on her original novel. Paquin plays a character named Lila, who is a proper, privileged girl celebrating the night before her wedding with a group of old college friends. The only problem is that Lila's maid of honor (played by Katie Holmes) is the ex of her husband-to-be (played by Josh Duhamel.) All of this makes for a complicated weekend, to say the least.
Reliving the wedding ritual was somewhat disconcerting for Paquin, who admitted to Women's Wear Daily that planning a wedding “scared the s--t out of me.” However, Paquin acknowledges that her character's "bride gene" is quite different than her own. Further, she admits that she had never actually attended a wedding - including her own real-life ceremony - until she started filming The Romantics. Quite an admission for a woman who has undergone two ceremonies in the space of weeks!
As Anna Paquin gears up for promoting her new film, it is likely that she will try to hold on to her special moments in Malibu with Stephen Moyer and their intimate gathering. With some perseverance and luck, they just may be able to seize upon that little bit of magic that sparked their relationship - without the drama of Paquin's double wedding counterpart.
