A candidate faces a lawsuit over copyright infringement. The candidate is running for the U.S. Senate, and her name is Sharron Angle. The Las Vegas Review-Journal copyright infringement partner filed the suit alleging that she used R-J material on her website without permission.
Righthaven LLC is the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s copyright lawsuit partner, and they are seeking damages of $150,000. They also want the senate candidate to forfeit her domain name sharronangle.com according to the Las Vegas Sun.
This lawsuit against Angle comes after the Democratic Party of Nevada showed The Review-Journal and Righthaven’s double standard in suing them and now Angle. The Democrat Party of Nevada also faces a lawsuit from Righthaven.
Many bloggers and journalists are happy that Righthaven is partnering with publishing groups to help crackdown on copyright infringement throughout the U.S. If Angle has to pay and give up her domain name, this could be a problem for her campaign. Hopefully this is the beginning of tougher standards for Internet copyright infringement rules.
Righthaven appears to be an equal opportunity company suing organizations of all types when it finds copyright infringement. That’s a good thing.

BUT, even if there was a copyright infringement, the domain name which is legally registered to her should not be forfeited since that is not what was allegedly wrongly used, and should not be a part of this suit.
...Just because there has been charges made, does not mean there is guilt.
This is a terribly important issue to bloggers. There is a lot of sharing going on and the rules should be consistent. I can see these Cat bloggers hugging on their little kitties regretting not knowing the rules.
Go ahead kick granny in the knees!
A link that is shared on Facebook gives you the option of a thumbnail. This allows you to put the pretty picture next to the pretty words into your news feed, but it sources and directs via link the material you share. It should be praised as free advertising.
I just got done reading a blog that listed 10 political comics as it's regular comic Sunday blog post. The comics were in it's entirety and not sourced. I am sure all 20 readers of close friends and random search engine readers enjoyed it.
There is a thing called "Fair Media Usage Rationale" that is actually a legal devise you can to put on your blog or website each time you use copyrighted material. I use a general statement that all usage of copyrighted material on my blog (a personal journal to establish a virtual imprint of my soul that can be accessed post mortem by my loved ones) is source linked. It is posted on my blog as sharing and honors and admires the material. It is generally posted for critique among my followers. It also directs and informs them in a (pool of millions of searches) No intention of malice, infringement or distribution.
This is just the blog author not knowing the rules. Unfortunately, the Review Journal is wanting to set the precedent and be the forefather of internet policing. It is a big responsibility. Coming from a Nevada newspaper on the pretense that the posting is ad viewing loss and considering there is a politician in the spotlight...I take is as a kick down the old lady further tactic. She lost and don't ever comeback they found a simple mistake that they will put on the burner and ignite into glorious flames as they watch the ugly democratic witch burn. Toss in a cat blogger. It is "Clockwork Orange" and we all are watching it and saying this is ok.
This still has no comparison to the Palin and McDonnell embarrassment and will not shadow that enough!
Considering the honest and not very intelligent mistake, the money amount she will pay could be even further spotlighted if it were NOT to go into the RJ greed pocket, but to the poor ghetto LV surrounding neighborhoods during Thanksgiving and feed (how much could 150,000 do)them. Or give it all to the Childrens Hospital there.
