What is the Reason for the Toshiba Recall?
The Toshiba recall of notebook computers according to PC World is because, “The notebook compute
rs can overheat at the notebook's plug-in to the AC adapter, posing a burn hazard to consumers.” About 41,000 laptops were recalled with over 100 reports of melting laptop cases and some minor injuries.
Is the Toshiba Recall Voluntary?
The voluntary Toshiba recall of the notebook computers happened on August 24, 2010. Toshiba is working with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to help protect consumers against a potential burn hazard. Certain Satellite T135, T135D and Satellite Pro T130 laptops were manufactured with a potentially faulty DC-In harness.
Which Laptops are Part of the Toshiba Recall?
Applicable computer types with model/part numbers starting with PST3AU, PST3BU or PST3LU are included the Toshiba recall. To date, there are no reports of serious injury in connection with this Toshiba recall. The temperature does get hot enough to pose a burn hazard if touched when overheating.
What Will Toshiba Do About the Recall?
In accordance with the Toshiba recall, the manufacturer strongly recommends owners update their systems to the BIO revision they are releasing to prevent the computers from overheating.
The Toshiba Recall Is Not Alone
The Toshiba recall follows several other laptop recalls by major manufacturers. In July, Sony recalled over a half million Vaio laptops. It seems there is a big problem with cramming super processing power in a small space.
Toshiba Recall Before Introduction of Folio 100
As the Toshiba recall hits the presses, the company is introducing the Folio 100. The Toshiba Folio 100 has 801.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1. But will there be any more recalls?
