Trojans Win a Shootout Against Hawaii

USC had little trouble moving the ball against the Warriors, problem was the defense offered little help as the Trojans outlasted the Warriors Thursday night 49-36 and gave new head coach Lane Kiffin is first win as the Trojan coach in the opening game for both teams in the 2010 season.

Sophomore QB Matt Barkley was impressive in the opener for USC completing 18 of 23 for 257 yards and 5 TD's leading the Trojans to 524 yards in total offense. Marc Tyler shinned gaining 154 yards and a TD leading the Trojan ground game. WR Ronald Johnson had seven catches for 59 yards and 3 TD's and also returned a punt 89 yards for a score.

Hawaii was led by QB Bryant Moniz who completed 18 of 36 for 269 yards and 1 TD before being knocked out of the game with a head injury in the third quarter. Shane Austin came in and completed 6 of 9 for 141 yards and two scores as the Warriors racked up 588 yards in offense against the Trojans. The Warriors had three receivers with over 100 yards led by Kealoha Pilares who had 176 yards and three scores on
only five receptions.

USC hosts Virginia next Saturday night in the home opener for the Trojans. Hawaii travels  across to the east coast and takes on Army next weekend.
