South Carolina Breezes in Opener

South Carolina had questions about their offensive line and defense, those were answered in a big way Thursday night as South Carolina beat Southern Mississippi 41-13.

The Gamecocks were lead by a pair of freshmen in RB Marcus Lattimore and WR Ace Sanders. Lattimore had 78 total yards and two TD's, while Sanders made a big play rushing and another on a long reception for 100 total yards in offense. QB Stephen Garcia looked sharp completing 16 of 23 for 195 yards and also had 36 yards rushing with two TD's. South Carolina totaled 447 yards against a good Golden Eagles defense.

Southern Miss. was lead by QB Austin Davis who completed 31 of 44 for 243 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. The Golden Eagles were held out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter. With two turnovers, numerous penalties, and three sacks the offense did move the ball but mistakes cost them too many times.

South Carolina is at home next Saturday against Georgia in their SEC opener. Southern Miss. has their home opener next week against Praire View A&M.
