Episode 4 of Mad Men spools out at 10 PM ET on AMC this evening as season 4 heats up. If you can't tune in, follow along right here with updates and tweets about the show.
Let's catch up: The renegade Mad Men have started a new agency and by January of 1965 they are doing much better than expected. At least that's what office manager Lane is saying as we left episode 3 last week.
Lane has a lot to be happy about after he rubs elbows with Don Draper over the New Year's weekend break. Don calls a lady "friend" to spend the night and Lane gets a lot off his chest as his wife spends the holiday back in London. Maybe Lane will relax a bit now? We'll see if he loosens up with more trips to Don's East Village bachelor pad.
Don cut a trip to Acapulco short when he learns the the real Mrs. Draper is suffering from incurable cancer - without her knowledge. The heartfelt goodbye he leaves her with is a final one for the woman who never gave up on the real Dick Whitman. Even though her dead husband was the victim of a Don Draper double-cross on the battlefields of Korea.
Joan goes to the doctor to check if her plumbing is up to snuff in case hubby Doc and she decide to start a family. The only uncertainty is where he will be stationed after impulsively enlisting as an Army surgeon. Vietnam is mentioned for the first time in the series and one gets the feeling it won't be the last.
For tonight's episode titled "The Rejected" AMC promotes this storyline:" An edict from Roger and Lane puts Pete in a personal dilemma."
So we'll see how things turn out for the Mad Men and Mad Women of Madison Avenue, circa 1965.
