The other day I'm minding my business, chewing on a ball,
when Ajax suddenly leaps up and shoots across the lawn like a rocket! Boom!
Just like that he's got a squirrel. It fell out of a tree,
practically right into his mouth.
He shakes it hard until it lies still across his teeth
Then he looks at me and says "Cool, huh?"
"What should we do with it?" he asks.
So, I told him; I say "You oughta take it inside and show it around."
"They'll be proud" I say. "Maybe they'll tear it up for diner
or let us rub it all over their bed,
or hang it on the fireplace or something."OK" he says.
And off he trots.
Well, I gotta see this! So I follow him in and he takes it straight to Da.
But Da is staring into one of the boxes.
Ajax just sits there for a minute wagging his tail
and Da reaches down and pats him on the head.
"Good boy" he says without looking.
Ajax sits there for another minute but Da never looks down.
"Hmpf" I say.
So Ajax looks over at me and shrugs his shoulders and drags it in to Mom.
She's in the living room with Momma Aunt Rebecca, talking and talking.
Well they just keep on talking and Ajax is standing there wagging his tail with the dead
squirrel hanging out all over, and they don't stop talking. But Ajax stops wagging.
"What should I do with it now?" Says Ajax.
"I dunno." I say "Let's take it outside and roll on it."
So Ajax turns around, but before he gets two steps Mom screams!
"What the...?! Ajax! What is that thing?"
"It's a squirrel" I say. But Ajax flips, and just starts running.
He runs outside followed by Da, Mom, Momma Aunt Rebecca, Pixel, and me.
We chase him all around the yard.
"You better stop Ajax!" I yell.
So he stops right where he caught the squirrel, and we all surround him,
and he doesn't know what to do.
"You better swallow it" I say.
He tries. "I can't!" He says.
Da yells at him, "Drop!" then puts it in a bag.
And that's the last we see of it.
"What was that all about" Ajax asks me later.
"I dunno" I say,
and go back to chewing on my ball.
Ajax just stares up into the trees.

Also, tell me more about how you learned to understand Dog. Dogology 101?
~ I know it is probably a strange concept, but I think of our family as a pack. The dogs know this about me. :)

Reykur
Yes poor Ajax indeed. But I do have to say that he is the youngest, the trixiest, and the most precocious of the bunch!
~what is "Reykur"?
That's my picture in John's icon.

I had a cat, Max, who was the ultimate hitman outside...he'd bring all of his corpses inside.
Max would sit by the rocks under the birdfeeders (or should I say bird buffet) just waiting...he had the patience of Job...then he'd make his move.
~Max, lord of stealth!I love to watch cats.
Thanks for posting this to The Surreal Circus! Featured.
One night i let her out of her cage, & she flew behind the entertainment center. Couldn't retrieve her. Next morning I found a few feathers, & a wing. It's part of nature.
What do you think happened to her?
~thanks for the comment my friend.

I'd rather hear dog stories, unless we're talking about the kids in my family. : - )
When I worked in urban education, I had to endure people who would frequently tell me I know nothing about children, because I don't have any. I used to tell them that it lets me worry about millions of kids who need a better education!
Blessings and best wishes - S.
