How backwoods my town really is

I went to court this morning to show I paid my speeding ticket fine in full. I got up the the courtroom, waited and waited and waited. Finally after about an hour, They decide to get the payed fines out of the way. twenty minutes later they call my name. I go up to talk to the state's attorney and he tells me they don't have record of the reciept I am showing them. (WHAT?)

So, I spend another hour talking to a lady in the cuircit clerk office trying over and over to explain that no i did not pay it today. It was 2 days ago, but they told me to show up for court anyway in case they didn't have time to fax it to the state's attorney's office. ( by the way, all these offices and the courtroom are all in the same building.)

They finally found the copy. It was mixed in with someone else's file. Lesson learned: DO NOT do anything which could cause you to have to pay a fine in a very small town. Just because they work with courthose titles, doesn't mean they are any smarter than the drunk farmer down the road.)
