New! McDonald's Smoothies

Sassy eagerly anticipated the introduction of McDonald's Smoothies this summer.  I love fruit smoothies, they are so refreshing on a hot summer day.

McDonald's Smoothies in two varieties:

• Wild Berry
• Strawberry Banana

They come in three sizes (12, 16, 22 ounces) and range in price from $2.25 to $3.25.

Main ingredients for the Wild Berry Smoothie:  Strawberry puree, water, sugar, blackberry puree, blueberry puree, concentrated pineapple juice, concentrated apple juice, lowfat yogurt and ice.

Main ingredients for the Strawberry Banana Smoothie: Strawberry puree, banana puree, water, sugar, concentrated apple juice, lowfat yogurt and ice.

I know the first time I looked up the nutrition info on the McDonald's website that they listed Smoothies with and without yogurt.  The without yogurt info seems to have vanished.  I tried both Smoothie flavors.  Look at the picture of the Wild Berry Smoothie (the darker smoothie).  Do you think there is any yogurt in that?  Not much, if any, not to mention that I was shortchanged by a good amount of smoothie.  Perhaps whoever mixed it up made a mistake.  It's harder to tell with the Strawberry Banana Smoothie, though I gotta say I could not taste any yogurt.

A 12-ounce McDonald's Smoothie has 180 calories, is fat free, has 45g carbs, 41g sugar.  It is a much better diet choice than a McDonald's shake, but costs more per ounce.

I was disappointed in the taste of both of them, perhaps because I don't think they contained any yogurt.  I'm used to making my own smoothies with yogurt and sometimes ice cream.

On a scale of one to ten, Sassy awards McDonald's Smoothies a 5.  They are one of the healthiest things on their menu, but the ones I had were lacking flavor.  I'll stick with buying McDonald's Frappes, very refreshing and a nice change of pace from fruity drinks.
