It's sad when a huge portion of our society is relying on getting "news" from sources that ignore important things and, instead, report on celebrities as if the world would stop revolving if actors and actresses were not the main focus of the day.
Â
The other day, I got this article in my email inbox:
Not News at the Associated Press? $1 Million Bounty on Sheriff JoeÂ
Here's some of what the article said:
A look at the Associated Press's raw national feed (saved and stored here at about 1:30 p.m. ET for future reference) informs us that the wire service considers the following items worthy of at least some countrywide attention:
- We're No. 1! UGA tops party schools ranking
- Lindsay Lohan released from jail, goes to rehab
- (Football Player Albert) Haynesworth again doesn't pass conditioning test
- Vuvuzelas silenced for basketball worlds
The fact that the sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona has had a $1 million bounty placed on his head by a Mexican drug cartel, an offer that is being treated as a credible threat? Sorry, that doesn't make the cut.
Â
As usual, Fox News reported this. Did anyone see it mentioned on CNN or MSNBC? Probably not.Â

Peter, why do you think the liberal left media are all bordering on bankruptcy? Slanted media will alway LOSE!
I just googled it and the Associated Press story is being passed around. Why didn't you just google it?
I don't think A.P. would pass on anything so sensational, otherwise. They don't just publish the goings-ons of liberals. I don't see a conspiracy. It doesn't change anything.
To think Associate Press waited what ever amount of time they waited proves they are a "liberal news" thing, (to miss a good sensational scoop, even) is silly.
And are you sure PBS or NPR didn't mention it? I haven't done the TV or radio much this week so I don't know offhand. And maybe they will mention it when they do ANOTHER story about the border. They usually so stories in a bigger context than that, with their ongoing stories like the border and immigration and the drug war.
God knows the "liberal media" has been covering the drug war.
When did Fox report it?
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lisa Allen said the death threat was relayed by the FBI and a caller who told Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV in Phoenix that it was from a Mexican drug cartel.
Allen said it wasn’t known whether the threat actually came from a drug cartel, but she said authorities believe the threat was made using a disposable cell phone in Mexico.
Arpaio said it’s not unusual for him to receive death threats as sheriff and an outspoken advocate of immigration enforcement. He said the last bounty against him was for $5 million.
"The economy must be bad down there in Mexico," Arpaio said, referring to the $1 million offer for his life.
He said the threats do not deter him from his work.

And, second question. Are you the one who has been assigned as my harasser today? Do y'all have a calendar and a schedule? Just wondered.
It looks like a lot isn't known about it all yet, especially on Monday. I ignore celebrity news, myself, I usually don't even know who they all are, but I don't think that means they were ignoring THE NEWS, entirely.
It looks like FOX jumped the gun in making conclusions about it all that aren't even known yet. It's under investigation!
Your article is not fair and balanced. You could have said, "They didn't report fast enough", or "FOX beat them to it", and that wouldn't have raised any red flags with me at all. But you made it look like they didn't report it at all, ever.
Yes, Shandi, I am against all the invaders, even pregnant mothers. Illegal is illegal.
Illegals are here illegally, Shandi. Why can't you grasp that concept? Check out the post I did today.
This is the same guy who had his deputies buy bomb parts and plant them on a critic, then arrest the guy, hold him for FOUR YEARS before he got a trial (at which the Sheriff was laughed out of court), and THEN pay him an unknown amount (it exceeded the $1 million deductible on the Sheriff's malpractice/malfeasance insurance) for false imprisonment and malicious prosecution. THIS is the guy you're taking seriously? REALLY?
It was reported by all sorts of conservative news sites.
I get several international newspapers online in all the languages I can read, and English-language newspapers from some countries whose languages I don't read. It stuns me to read important things that get utterly lost under the barrage of celeb-trash in US media.
I have long admired the Maricopa County sheriff, and find the news of the cartel's price on his head a lot more newsworthy than any amount of celeb trash.
I happen to love MY FELLOW AMERICANS. I am a LIBERAL, or had you forgotten. I am rather fond of the people of the rest of the world as well. I am a LIBERAL, or is that beyond your understanding.
Marilyn, You are an excellent role model for Conservative policy designed to make a few people prosperous. Liberal political policy is designed to spread prosperity to those who create it. Any conservative supporter knows this. You not only know it, YOU THINK IT IS THE NATURAL LAW.
I am not trying to BOSS you around lady, I am trying to educate you and improve your morals and people skills. I am not making a very good job of it. I guess that in that regard you would say Liberals Fail.
Conservative policy IS to make everyone prosperous. One day, I pray that your eyes will be opened.
