extortion or what?

Mel Gibson's lawyers are claiming that his exgirlfriend is trying to extort money from him...

hard to know, but I will say this, she is awfully calm during the phone calls....I'd be calling him everything but a child of God if he talked to me that way......

Are you implying that her show of decent behavior is 'proof' of the lawyers' claim? Look at it this way: if the other party is carrying on like a total crazoid, behaving like a grownup will not hurt your case.

no, I'm not saying this at all. I have no idea what went on between the two of them, I don't know either of them and I have nothing to gain no matter how things work out between them. I don't think there's any excuse for his behavior and I wonder why she didn't walk away the first time he displayed this behavior.
My question is rhetorical - is it extortion? If it is/was, why did his camp wait so long to bring out that accusation? why wouldn't he have just said "she's trying to get my money"...
and he was such a jerk, why didn't she say it when they first split up? Did he pay her off to keep her mouth shut about his horrible behavior?
The 2 adults could fight each other to the death for all I care, but there is a kid involved in this & it would be in the best interest of the child for both of them to act like adults and keep their dirty laundry private....
