Here’s a duet that is quite unusual and surprising to most – Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice joined Aretha Franklin on stage for a remarkable duet at a charity in Philadelphia at the Mann Music Center, according to CBS news. Odd pairing to say the least! But the results turned out fantastically!
Condoleezza is actually a classical trained pianist (surprise!), and she gave that piano the works, as though that were here career, as Aretha sang “I Say a Little Prayer†and “My Country ‘Tis of Theeâ€.
The charity event’s purpose was to raise money in support of music and arts for inner city kids.
Aretha was even surprised that Condoleezza played the piano, let alone playing classical music in such a highly trained fashion. Like many Americans, we were used to seeing Condoleezza in the political field, almost detached from the real world, and Aretha thought the same thing. Aretha’s take on Condoleezza’s piano talent: "All I had seen of Dr. Rice was in a political atmosphere. It just seemed foreign that she would be a classical pianist."
Maybe a talent agency will view Condoleezza’s performance and book her future gigs!
