In a study collecting data from 2000 – 2006 experts released findings that rank the states according to which are the healthiest for kids. It’s noted to keep in mind that data does not include any potential changes implemented by the recent economic downturn. Â
Factors such as infant mortality rate, control of childhood diseases, and school fitness programs were used to determine which state offered the best conditions for children to live a healthy life. Â Â
The top five states were listed as
1.     New Hampshire
2.     Minnesota
3.     Vermont
4.     Utah
5.     Massachusetts Â
Is your home state in the top five? If not, below is the ranking for all 50 states.
Oth
er indicators used to determine ranking included drinking water, air quality, availability of medical services, public health policies, education, and most importantly, the fewest number of children living in poverty. Â
All of these are important factors for raising healthy kids, but let's not forget the importance of the family itself. Regardless of where kids physically live, the security and love of an emotionally healthy family unit is crucial. Â
Many children have risen above poverty and other diversities with the guidance and protection of a supportive family without necessarily living in the healthiest conditions.
Local and federal governments need to look more closely at how to aid the family unit as a whole. There needs to be more widespread efforts to make America's towns and cities family friendly. When there are resources for mom and dad it makes life better for the children.
Do you live in a great town or city for raising kids? Tell us about it.
