George Clooney will be receiving a special Emmy Award at the ceremony on August 29; but it has nothing to do with TV. George Clooney will be the recipient of the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for the extensive charity work he has done throughout the years.
According to the L.A. Times, the TV academy issued the following press release depicting their reasons for selecting George Clooney as the recipient of this prestigious award.
"Whether it is his advocacy to stop genocide in Darfur, his subsequent founding of Not On Our Watch with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Jerry Weintraub to focus global attention and resources on preventing mass atrocities, or quickly mobilizing the entertainment industry for the 'America: A Tribute to Heroes' in the wake of 9/11, 'Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope' in 2005, and most recently, the 'Hope For Haiti Now' telethon, Clooney’s personal dedication to humanitarian concerns makes him the ideal choice for this recognition." The "Hope for Haiti Now" telethon, which Clooney hosted, is nominated for best variety special at the Emmys.
Other stars who have been awarded the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award in the past include Bill Cosby, Oprah Winfrey and Danny Thomas.
It is incredibly refreshing to see a star with the fame and fortune of George Clooney dedicate his time and his money to helping those far less fortunate than himself. He serves as a fine example for all of those other Hollywood types who squander their money so foolishly, when even a minute fraction of their fortunes go go such a long, long way in helping others.
Kudos to George Clooney for being the upcoming recipient of the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. It's quite obvious that George has the looks and the talent. This proves he has the heart that matches up to both.
