SALT - A better Bond movie than the Bond movies!

SALT with Angelina Jolie opened tonight, and my daughter and I saw it.

Fantastic.

A better Bond movie than the recent Bond movies.

Tom Cruise was originally recruited for the lead, but Angelina Jolie totally makes this film.

 

The part was then rewritten for her.

The action is fast and very Lara Croft- like.

 

 One might think, or, one might have thought the existence of Russian Spies in the plot a bit far fetched.

 

Nah. Not so anymore. A couple lived near me. So.

 

On with the plot.

 

Evelyn Salt is an American CIA agent who works for Rink Petroleum  - SOUND LIKE RAND CORP, anyone? 

And she is married to a German. Or so we think.

 

 She is in reality a KGB sleeper agent.

 Many of the characters in this fast=paced action film, with many video-game elements, are not who we think they are.

 

The acting and accents are very well done.

Thanks so much for the review , Kathsie! It's released here today - but I'm senile and knock-kneed and flat-feet by now , a doddering wreck..so I'll wait till the crowds have lost interest but the theatre -owners haven't before I venture out for a ticket, okay?! heheheheh

I've always liked Ms. Jolie better in her action movies, as compared to the human drama ones. Don't know why - maybe I like women throwing their legs around. :)

She is excellent in the action movies, because she is primal, and that is what is emphasized in action movies.

I will watch it on DVD. I rarely go to the theater and movies are released on DVD so quickly now the wait won't be too long.

Thanks for the review of the film at a very opportune time. I bought advance tickets today, for tomorrow's show, since there was a big rush at the multiplex close to my house. I'm now very anxious to see it! Did you see "Inception" starring Leonardo Di Caprio? It has been given a four star rating by the film crtics here.

DId not see Inception, but yes, it has been very big, here, too. I will wait for the DVD for Inception. Let me know how you like SALT. Very much like a video game into a movie, with all the twists of a spy thriller, which it is.

You will absolutely love it!! My daughter and I were thinking of something to do last night in my husband's absence, and we both said SALT !! We saw the trailer a month ago when we saw Sex and the City II

Ursula Andress is famous for that. I was quite young when I saw the original Bond movies, not even a teen, but saw them with my older brother.

Plausible and implausible but it makes it seem so real.

I think Jolie could have an entirely new career.

I think Jolie is more "man" than all the other Hollywood action heroes combined in these action-oriented roles - she could give Mr. Damon a run for his money as "Jason Bourne" in the wonderful Bourne stories. (Stories, not the movies - I'm not a huge fan of the way those movies have been shot - all jerky camera-work and and abrupt story-telling. Mr. Ludlum, on the other hand - ohh, could that guy spin a yarn, man! )

I have been wanting to see this one... Phillip Noyce is very good a directing this type of film and should prove to be his best in this genre.

EXACTLy. I saw the trailer a month ago, and not knowing ANYThING about it, my daughter and I were hooked. Reading up on it last night AFTER seeing it....

I'll end up having to wait for the DVD as the local theater mostly shows PG and only two shows a week at that...and no way to get there to begin with, plus no money for a ticket...nearest town with more than one screen is over fifty miles away, way too far to walk...

Loved her in Wanted...so will wait until the DVD is out...

It is PG 13. No skin. I think they must have taken some out to broaden the audience, IMHO. I see few movies at theatres because of the $$.

Very very good. Number 2 at the box office, right after inception.

Kathryn, as you know, I really like this film too. I don't know if Salt will give Bond a run for his money, but I do hope a sequel is made.

that would be wonderful, giving bond a run for his money, and a sequel. I was very pleasantly surprised. she is perfect for this. i had previously only seen her in . .. girl, interrupted, and I thought she did a good job, but i hated the character she played. it took place at mclean hospital, which is in my town, and was filmed in part nearby, with one facade of mclean. people around here remember the author and some dated her. it was an interesting film of the times, which were closer to prehistoric victorian times than we are at now.
