Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s (RFK Jr.) wife pleaded guilty to a lesser violation charge in order to avoid the drunk driving charge. Mary Kennedy, 50, will have to pay a $500 fine and have her driver's license suspended for 90 days but she will not face any jail time. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was not present at his wife's hearing.
The terms of Mary Kennedy's guilty plea stipulates that her case will be dropped if she doesn't violate the law for a year. Kennedy will have to go to two drunk driving programs and visit with a psychiatrist.
Mary Kennedy was near a school at the time she was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Kennedy had a dog with her and had run over a curb causing a police officer to pull her over.
Hopefully this will be the last time Mary Kennedy goes before a judge for drunk driving or driving while impaired. Obviously Kennedy's guilty plea is an indication of her understanding that she did something wrong.
Too many lives are lost due to the judgment lapses of those who choose to indulge in alcohol or drugs and then drive.
