Yesterday we were on our way home from our vacation. We were driving through Texas over a thousand miles from home and we were driving through a construction area with fresh tar when all of the sudden both front tires popped and we slid to the side of the road. Thankfully because of the tar we slid slowly but did not get all the way off of the road.
We had to get out of the car off the road in the 90 degree heat in the middle of no where. Thankfully we have a cell phone and contacted the next town for a tow, we had to wait only about 40 minutes thank goodness. But while we were waiting a car kicked up some tar that flew in to my arm. It hit me really hard and gave me a good bruise and was also hot and burned my arm.
Well we had the car towed and the tires fixed but it turns out that it was actually our transmission that dropped and caused the tires to flatten, so they had to two us 80 miles further to a bigger town with a dealer ship. We are now awaiting the fait of my car. We are stranded at a hotel in Amarillo, Texas.
So this is all going to cost a small fortune, not to mention my husband is suppossed to be be back at work on Monday which I don't see how he could possibly get back in time.
So we are obviously in one of the worst travel scenarios a family could possibly be in with a high probability of financial issues.

Fly our husband home and stay with the car till you can drive it.
Rotten luck.
Been there, done that. More than once.
So sorry to hear this. I had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago in S.C. There was a thunderstorm the night before we traveled and the roads were slick and because of the extreme weather it created huge, and I mean hugenpock marks in the road. We broke our tire and swerved, and then several cars followed suit. We called AAA and a guy with a truck came to pick us up, and our car, and took us to the local fix-it place. We were lucky that they fixed it, there was nothing else wrong and we were on our way.
I hope you were able to pay and get on the way home the next day. That is just awful. How scary.
