Tampa Bay (Florida) has been having so much rain, lately This weather has caused the ground to be damp most of the time. And the mushrooms are thriving!

These are not the edible mushrooms you find at the market. Nor or they the hallucinogenic mushrooms from Wonderland. They are just plain ole toadstools.

I walked out of work and in the grassy area between the walkway and the parking area, I saw these mushrooms. I thought they were kind of cool looking.

I opened my back pack and took out my camera. I am sure that there was someone hanging around and thinking, "Look at that crazy nurse taking pictures of mushrooms!?!"

But I know a Gather opportunity when I see one. Here is some of the fungus among us!

I like your work but you mention that these toadstools are not edible and I was wondering about that. I have them in my yard during wet times and the squirrels love them. They will gorge themselves on toadstools and do not seem to have any ill effects from doing so. It got me to wondering if indeed the things might just be edible after all.

I have put it in my tickler file to do a little research on the subject. Just wondered if you perhaps had already done so since you mentioned it.

I've wondered too, Clifford, but never got around to looking it up. At my old house I had quite a crop of mushrooms pretty regularly. I haven't noticed any around here, but I'll keep looking and, if I find any, I'm doing my darnedest to see if they're edible.

I would NEVER eat a mushroom that was growing in my yard. Some animals eat things that humans don't. I just wouldn't take any chances.

Nice photos. I wouldn't eat mushrooms that weren't from a grocery store, even if people said they were okay. I imagine to some, it's tempting, but I'd not want to get sick. I love to eat mushrooms though!

Cool photographs!! I really like photographing mushrooms, though I do not know as much as you do about them. I just figure all of them are uneatable and do not try and eat them.
I got photographs of a giant mushroom. They are supposed to grow all over? So look out for one. It is the size of a soccer ball, they are HUGE!!
Mushrooms fascinate me. They grow in the nastiest of conditions or the best conditions. Some are edible and some are not. They reproduce in a cool way too!

I missed a great opportunity to get some photos of the biggest mushrooms I've ever seen today myself. They were as big as sandwich plates! Your photos are great!

Excellent shot. These don't look poisonous to me. The ones that come up in my yard are definitely poisonous, I immediately crush them with my feet. I love taking pictures of mushrooms and so a lot on my hikes during the summer and fall.
